Dynamo Aber Football Club

Dynamo Aber are a local football team playing in the Taff Ely and Rhymney Valley Football Alliance Saturday league first division. The team was established in the summer of 2007 by a group of friends residing in the Caerphilly and Abertridwr area. As the club was a new team entering the league for the 2007-2008 season, they had to start in the second tier. However the team was promoted in their very first season to the delight of everyone involved. In conjunction with the eleven a side games on a Sunday, the team also participated in a five a side league every Tuesday evening accomplishing back to back league titles. Initially the club found great difficulty in finding a regular pitch to play on, however after a significant amount of help from the local council we now play on the Owain Glyndwr field in Caerphilly.

The nucleus of the team started playing together in the under eleven age group for Abertridwr Y.M.C.A garnering much success up to under eighteen level. Unfortunately the team had to disband as many of the players left home to go to university. A number of players then went on to play for semi-professional clubs and others played for their respective university sides. Following a year away, the majority of the team decided that it would be a good idea to set up a new team and enter the senior leagues.

Currently Dynamo Aber F.C are about to embark on a new challenge in the Saturday league, having finished the previous season in fourth place in division 1 of the Sunday league. The club have once again entered two cup competitions with the view of getting as far as possible in both. Although the team still consists of mainly players from the Caerphilly area, the squad has been strengthened for the new season with the addition of a few new players who are friends of existing members of the old squad. The ambitions of the team are to compete on all three fronts this year and push for some silverware, which would be a fantastic achievement for such a new club.

In the future, the intention is to hopefully win the league this season and then move into the top division of the Saturday league for next season. From there on, the South Wales amateur league awaits. Obviously the club would be forced to start in the bottom league once again. However this would lead to the possibility of getting onto the Welsh league in a few seasons time. We feel that this is a very realistic goal for the future and the club are fully committed to achieving this. The club has recently gained sponsorship from Thomas Carroll Group Plc. It has been a great help to have so much support from both a local company and the local council. This has been very much appreciated and we’re hoping that the extra funding will be able to push us on to the next level.
